Mapsource is only for Windows as well. You may be able to use these programs with Wine / WineBottler on the Mac however. I have used WineBottler with legacy windows software on my Macs. Have not tried these programs, but have read that Mapsource can be converted this way. But it is very ’un-Mac-like’ old software, so you probably won’t like it. Garmin MapSource is not available for Mac but there are some alternatives that runs on macOS with similar functionality. The most popular Mac alternative is QMapShack, which is both free and Open Source. Bias fx mac torrent.

It kind of works but in general I find Basecamp simply disgusting. No fun at all to work with. However, I think it is necessary to be able to create routes on a bigger screen and then fine tune (better: correct) them before putting them onto the RV 770.
Are there better alternatives for Basecamp, either for macOS or online? Garmin Mapsource Download Windows 10CommentsGarmin Mapsource City Select North America
* Furkot.com is an online trip/route creating site which creates gpx files that can be downloaded as Trips to your GPS.
* Thanks! My first experiments there are promising. Looks good and is much more intuitive than Basecamp.
* Just be aware that if you create a route on a different map to the one in your device you may not get the results you expect.
*edited May 2018 There’s Garmin’s legacy program, Mapsource, that was discontinued a number of years ago. It will use the same maps that are already installed in Basecamp. It’s worth a look, but if you are looking for something ’intuitive’ then you may not be impressed. :)https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209
Also ’Tyre to Travel’ which was originally a shareware program that only worked with TomTom devices, but the new version also supports Garmin. www.tyretotravel.com
* I’ve use Tyre for years and it’s my favorite PC based route creation software BUT I didn’t recommend it to the OP as I believe it’s only PC based and he requested MAC software.
*edited May 2018 Sorry, missed that detail. Mapsource is only for Windows as well. You may be able to use these programs with Wine / WineBottler on the Mac however. *edited May 2018 The people from Tyre to Travel have now created MyRouteApp (www.myrouteapp.com), apparently as a kind of successor to Tyre to Travel. It is web-based (can be used with any browser). I created several routes with several variants with it and think that it is really, really good.
It has a free ’basic’ mode and a paid ’gold’ mode. In the free mode it works only with Google maps, in the paid mode it works also with HERE/Garmin maps.
The paid mode can be tried for free for one month - that is what I am going to do for the preparation of my upcoming 10-day trip from Arizona to California (and back). I will see how that works and let you know.
* I long for the ’good ol’ days’ when you could create a route in Google or Mapquest and export it directly to a Garmin compatible GPX file.
* I still use Mapsource (windows of course) for all my routes. been across the usa many times. this year to the Rockies then down to Utah Grand Canyon then home. All planned already with Custom POI with in 6 miles along the route. Thanks to POI Editor.

To the OP:
I’ve been playing with Furkot for a month or two so I’m hardly an expert, but so far it seems very promising. There’s always a learning curve with any new program (and Furkot has it’s own peculiarities, too) but the curve is not nearly so steep as BaseCamp and help files are available from the site. You don’t have to spend hours browsing the web for all your answers. No arcane filing system needed, either. It’s like Tyre on steroids.
Yes, routes created on Furkot and Tyre etc., may not exactly match up with your Garmin maps, so it’s always a good idea to check it out on your GPS before you depart. (As for me, a PC user, after I complete my trip in Furkot (or Tyre to Travel for that matter) I always open in MapSource to double-check it and then transfer it to my GPS from there.)
Another matter, but there is some concern that with Google raising it’s prices dramatically for programs that used it’s maps that there may be a migration away from Google maps, and although that may turn out to be a good thing in the long run, there may be disruptions until the dust settles. I know of at least one web-based routing program that shut it’s doors over the issue.

* This is going to shake things up: http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/31196/big-changes-to-google-maps-policy-and-pricing-coming-june-11
help.furkot.com/getting-started/no-google-map.html
Until now Google’s pricing policy made it possible for us to offer Furkot free of charge. The change in pricing means that we are expected to pay about 20 times more than before. Sadly, there is no way we can absorb that much of a cost increase. And since we want to continue offering free access to Furkot, we have no choice but to stop using Google mapping API at this time.

* Tyre is now attempting to migrate away from Google, too.
They expect some disruptions while they make the change (It seems they’ve been working on a contingency plan for a while) and expect to be functional again by June 11.
Google Maps, the new Photobucket. Breaking the internet for fun and profit. :D
* But Photobucket is just a little struggling company. Google is one of the largest corporations in the world. >:)

Google Maps, the new Photobucket. Breaking the internet for fun and profit. :DVersion 7.00 of Tyre has now been released and no longer uses Google Maps. I’ve checked a few of my saved routes and they appear to be fine using the new maps. The one thing I find that I do miss is the ’satellite view’ option that Google Maps provided.

* I’m finding a few issues with the new version of Tyre. Can’t seem to recalc a route after a reorder of waypoints, for one. Will forward issues to them as they seen to want to correct all found issues quickly. Version 7.01 and 7.02 have already been released.
* FWIW, Google has given developers a reprieve until July 16. But it will be here soon. http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/comment/208351/#Comment_208351
* Mapsource gets my vote too. Been using since 2008. Tried to figure out basecamp, but it seems to be bloated for my needs. Can whip up a route in no time in mapsource.
Keep in mind both like to use the following paths for their map cache:
TileCache c:Users{USER}AppDataLocalGarminBaseCampTileCache Junction s:tempbasecamp 11/30/2012 12:00:38 AM
TileCache c:Users{USER}AppDataRoamingGarminMapSourceTileCache Junction s:tempmapsource 11/30/2012 12:00:57 AM
Where {USER} is the logged in user’s name. I made a symlink to a folder on a 2GB ramdisk (s:). Less wear and tear on the SSD this way. ↑ Top
